Sculptural human form is a holder for storing and transferring promises; a hug is the catalyst for this intimate and empathetic experience. The physical presence of another person is removed, but the physicality of experience and the most intimate personal engagement remain.
A life-size human figure is installed in a gallery. It is white and soft, inviting a hug. If the visitor gives the figure a big hug, it will whisper into his/her ear a promise left by a previous gallery visitor. Unexpectedness and intimacy of the whisper combined with being physically engaged in a hug and pressed against a soft body are critical in shaping a powerful experience based on physiological reaction. The figure is made out of memory foam, and the impression of the hugging person is left on it for some time, slowly fading.
